Personal Shopping – Wardrobe staples

Going back to basics

We all love a jeans outfit, practical and comfortable and can be styled in so many ways – but do you have a good fitting pair of jeans? With so many styles in the shops it can be overwhelming to find some you feel happy in and that suit your body shape.

Finding some key wardrobe staples can really liven up the wardrobe and make day to day dressing so much easier.

How many of us look in the wardrobe and think, “I’ve got nothing to wear?!”

Last week I met with the lovely Laura and we went on the hunt for some jeans for Spring, and some wardrobe staples. Laura has a busy lifestyle, and as a professional newborn photographer she needed a few great tops that were comfortable as well as smart.

We started in H&M and I picked out various pieces for Laura to try that would suit her body shape, and also styles and colours she wouldn’t normally go for.

First I wanted to show Laura the importance of dressing for her pear shape.

A lot of people tend to pull their tops down over their trousers, but for a pear tucking in and adding a belt is key!

We are pulling in to accentuate her waist, and it really highlights her shape rather than hiding it.

Next we tried on a V neck off white cami with spaghetti straps. By investing in a few smarter ones you not only get a lot more wear out of them, but you will feel so much better about what you’re wearing, even though you may only use it as a vest!

These are absolute wardrobe staples, ready for layering through autumn and winter, and come spring/summer they are great little tops in the sun.

The jacket was a great buy, the best length for Laura and another wardrobe staple seeing her through all the seasons.

So from H&M we actually put together a little capsule collection for Laura, three blouses for work that she can also wear with jeans, a leopard tee, white cami, a biker jacket and blush pink coat!

What a great haul!

Next we went to Topshop to take on the jeans shopping. Topshop have a great range to choose from, with so many styles.

We were looking for a lighter colour jean for spring, and focused on the Jamie jeans collection. We tried several styles and the high waisted skinny style was definitely the best fit on Laura as it pulled in at her waist to show off her fabulous pear shape.

Next I showed Laura how to dress the jeans up – remember to tuck the top in and add a belt. Next up shoes – the pointed toe not only adds elegance, but elongates Lauras body.

Adding the jacket in brings the outfit together, pulling in at the waist. Finishing touches with accessories – Laura found this great bag, the straws and natural materials are so on trend this season, and gives a great spring look to any outfit.

So there we have it – some great wardrobe staples and some tips on dressing for your body shape!
